The role of the European Union in the world. Report from the seminar held within the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence project “Resilient and transforming Europe” Transform EU

Niniejszy raport został opracowany w ramach projektu Centrum Doskonałości im. Jeana Monneta (JMCoE) „Resilient and transforming Europe” (Transform EU). Raport koncentruje się na ewoluującej roli Unii Europejskiej na arenie międzynarodowej, przedstawiając krytyczną ocenę jej pozycji i wpływu z wielu perspektyw regionalnych – w tym azjatyckiej, afrykańskiej, chińskiej i europejskiej. Poprzez rozwijanie dialogu interdyscyplinarnego autorzy badają, w jaki sposób polityka UE i jej zaangażowanie na arenie międzynarodowej przyczyniają się do kształtowania bardziej zrównoważonego, odpornego i opartego na współpracy ładu międzynarodowego. 

W raporcie przedstawiono opracowania ekspertów reprezentujących różne regiony świata i dziedziny nauki. Ich spostrzeżenia pomagają pogłębić wiedzę na temat ewolucji roli UE z wielu perspektyw i wnoszą wkład w dyskusję nad możliwymi kierunkami dalszych działań. Poglądy te zostały przedstawione podczas międzynarodowego seminarium „Rola UE w świecie”, zorganizowanego w ramach projektu Centrum Doskonałości im. Jeana Monneta „Resilient and transforming Europe” (Transform EU), które odbyło się 21 listopada 2025 r. na Uniwersytecie Ekonomicznym w Poznaniu.

The report has been prepared within the framework of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JMCoE) project “Resilient and transforming Europe” (Transform EU). The goal of the report is to deepen the understanding of the European Union’s evolving role in the international arena and to critically assess its position and influence from multiple regional perspectives – including Asian, African, Chinese and European viewpoints. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, the authors explore how the EU’s policies and global engagement contribute to shaping a more sustainable, resilient and cooperative international order.

In this volume, we bring together contributions from experts representing different regions of the world and a variety of academic disciplines. Their insights help deepen our understanding of the European Union’s evolving role in the international arena from multiple perspectives and contribute to the discussion on possible ways forward and policy recommendations. The contributions included in this volume were originally presented at the international seminar “The role of the EU in the world”, organised within the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence project “Resilient and transforming Europe” (Transform EU). The seminar took place on 21 November 2025 at the Poznań University of Economics and Business (Poland).
